Remote Solutions: N95 Face Mask + Computer Fan = Indoor Air Filter

Jim constantly amazes me with his ability to solve problems without access to a hardware store. In late August, we woke up in Tomales Bay to smoke from the Woodward Fire in Point Reyes National Seashore.

Resilience anchored in Tomales Bay before the smoke hit.

KN95 Mask + Computer Fan = Indoor Air Filter

Necessity + Jim Taggart = invention!

Our dinghy on a clear day before the wildfire smoke shows how orange and thick the air had become. Outside, we tasted the smoke.

Because we had no access to stores, Jim rigged a spare computer fan we had on board to function as an indoor air filter by attaching an N95 mask to it. Inside our boat, with so few cubic feet, it worked great.

That same day, this male Tule Elk grazed on a ridge above, where the wildfire smoke blended with coastal fog.

Even shrouded in smoke, Tomales Bay’s White Gulch is a serene haven.
